Reducing preventable deaths with the right equipment

When horrific events occur, such as those at Manchester Arena in 2017, many people are severely injured. In these cases, time is of the essence – every second counts when saving a life – but equally important is the medical equipment that is readily available. Without the right first aid supplies on hand (and in the right hands), people with serious but preventable injuries can die needlessly.
Taking the opposite viewpoint, if the right equipment is available and ready in areas where attacks are likely to occur, and accessible to first responders, many people who are the victims of such horrendous events would have a much better chance of survival.

The need for bleed control kits

With violence and knife crime a growing concern as the UK battles with unrest, there is a need for more suitable first aid equipment to be made available to emergency services. In the case of a terrorist attack, such as the Manchester bombing in 2017, where catastrophic bleeding will threaten the survival of unfortunate victims, a larger supply of tourniquets and splints would rapidly improve the survival rate of people who are not necessarily fatally injured. Without such equipment to hand, however, the rate of survival drops severely. If you want to know more about the contents of a bleed control kit, read this blog.

The RapidStop Tourniquet

When a limb receives a traumatic injury and catastrophic bleeding occurs, it is not enough to just apply pressure to the wound – we must stop bleeding with full occlusion as quickly and efficiently as possible if we are to increase the chance of survival.
Researched and developed by leading experts at MIT, with input from medical and military professionals, our RapidStop tourniquet has an innovative ratchet and buckle system that allows for extremely fast application and reduction in blood flow. Field tested by professionals, it is the perfect addition to bleed control kits for personnel in the army, navy, air force and emergency services. Watch this video to see it in action.
